Growing Girl

We had Abby’s 2 month check up. The doctor was amazed at how strong her legs are. Abby loves to stand so she spends a lot of her wake time with me holding her while she bounces around. She just doesn’t really like to sit right now. Everything else checked out fine too, a healthy little girl that I think is pretty perfect!

Head: 38cm

Length:  22 1/4in

Weight: 11lbs 14.6 ozs

That’s right, my little 6lb 14oz baby is almost 12lbs! I’m a little sad that’s she’s almost outgrown her newborn clothes.

In Retrospect

I was talking to someone yesterday about the difference between having 1 and 2 kids and it got me thinking and laughing about a lot of things. I can’t believe I thought there were difficult parts of having a baby! Abby is the easy one, having a baby is easy. What’s hard is having a toddler running around and not being able to nap “whenever the baby naps.”  Until Kate was a couple months old we only went for the first hour of church. It wasn’t until she was about 3 months that we stayed for the whole thing. Again, what??? It’s easy to have Abby at church for the whole time, she’s nothing compared to having a toddler who has yet to master the art of whispering…

On a side note, when Abby was first born and we all stayed home from church for a couple of weeks Kate was literally begging to go. It was so cute, she kept saying “Kate church, please!”

I don’t think we took Kate to a restaurant until she was like 3 months old. I’m not sure why because it’s so easy to bring a baby out to eat. They just lay there and look around. I told Jason if we have another baby then we can just laugh at all the things we thought were hard with 2 kids.

I should add that having 2 kids is a lot easier than I imagined. I think it’s because towards the end of my pregnancy I got all panicky and thought it was going to be impossible. That’s my advice to all first times moms: imagine how difficult it will be so then you’ll be pleasantly surprised when it’s not as hard :) Though 3plus years of no caffeine does make for some very tired mornings!

Good Times

I don't know what's funnier; Kate aiming for Abby, Abby's dramatic response, or Kate's expression at the end.

I know Kate wasn't really aiming at Abby, it's just funny how no matter what Abby seems to end up in Kate's path...

Mother’s Day

I am a fan of traditions and our family has already started some of our very own traditions.

Since we like to stretch out holidays I had a very fun weekend :) It consisted of me watching what I wanted on TV which included Uptown Girls, Air Force One, and Julie and Julia (Jason actually liked that one), and being quite spoiled overall.  I’m very blessed to have a husband who makes me so happy, that is the best help he can give me as a Mother.

For my 1st Mother’s Day Jason surprised me with Katherine in the bumbo with my gift. This year Abby’s in the bumbo with Kate sitting next to her holding my gift, which she had already unwrapped :)

For Mother’s Day Jason said I could do whatever I wanted. I wanted to go to Helen. We did this on my very first Mother’s Day and I wanted to do the same with Abby. Helen is a very special place to me. Jason and I would go when we were in college to “our spot” at Helen, it was where we celebrated my 21st birthday and where Jason proposed to me. I absolutely love that place and love that we only go on special occasions so it never gets old.

Our friends had been to Helen and told us about the bears you could feed. We stopped there first and Kate loved it. At first the bears made her nervous but she loved the fish, turtle, and lizard. She eventually warmed up to the bears and even feed them some food.

After the bears we went to the park area then went to our candy shop and bought so much candy. I’m pretty sure I ate at least a pound of fudge!  I had to buy another ornament so now Kate and Abby have their own Helen ornament.

We left Helen and went to my parents house where we spent the rest of the evening and pretty late into the night. My sister was in town so it was nice all hanging out together.

It was a perfect day. I love my family!

Birthday Surprise

We all went to Columbus to surprise MeeMaw for her birthday. It was the first time everyone got to see Abby and Luke. It was also our first time staying away from home with 2 kids. Kate slept in her pack-n-play and Abby slept in the bassinet. It went really well and they both did great. I think it’s easier to travel with a really little baby because they’re not on a schedule yet.

Easter

We had a wonderful Easter with family. My sister was in town so after doing our own little Easter at home we spent the day at my parents. Kate did very well hunting for eggs and was quick to find out that she could shake the eggs to determine which ones contained a treat!
