What’s In A Name

Abigail – We like it and we think Kate and Abby sound cute together. There is one more reason that is a theme with both of our girls names but I’ll leave it out in case we can’t carry on that tradition.

Claudia – Jason’s maternal Grandmother. Now both our girls are named after a Grandma. Jason said Claudia was really fun loving and talented (she was a concert pianist) and a hard worker. Hopefully Abby will take after her namesake and acquire some of those same traits.

Shehane – How appropriate for a Shehane baby to be born on St. Patrick’s Day! Irish is in my family too so it’s even better.

Snow Bunny

The first time it snowed Kate was born, the second time she was a little unsure but the third she absolutely loved it. I opened her curtains when she got up from her nap and she just kept saying “snow, snow, snow” over and over again. I bundled her up and she had so much fun. She was picking up the snow and throwing it and making foot prints. I was about to freeze to death but stayed as long as possible. Her mittens and socks were soaking when I brought her in and she was still upset that I took her away from the snow. I put everything in the dryer, warmed her up then when Jason got home he took her back out. It’s funny how kids can ignore how painfully cold they are when they’re having fun.

It really is so pretty!

We spent Saturday at my parents so Kate could again play in the snow. My parents pulled out the boogie board from the basement and she had a blast sledding down the hill. Jason had fun too :)

Kate and Mommy Day

Kate and I were able to go to the GA Aquarium last week with our friends Kristin and Seth. I really wanted to do something fun with Kate before Abby came so this was a perfect opportunity.

Kate loved the fish! When we first got there she saw the fish and climbed right up and start saying “fish, fish” over and over. I had to convince her there were more in order to get her to move on. I took a chance and didn’t take a stroller in. She did really well staying with me. It helped that I could use Seth to get her where I wanted to go. She has no problem following him around :) Considering that carrying/chasing a 2 year old around didn’t make me go into labor I shouldn’t be surprised that I’m still sitting her past my due date! There was a man in a shark outfit that terrified Kate. I mean if she even thought he was around she’d get really upset. Besides the shark man she and I both had a great time. It’s so fun watching her explore new things and seeing her excitement. She’s pretty great :)

Last Project For Awhile

Here is a bookcase I built to match the crib I made before Kate was born.  I was supposed to finish it a long time ago as a birthday present for Emily, but instead it took a year and a half to finish (keep in mind there were stretches of 4-6 months that I didn’t work on it), but I finally finished it while Emily and Kate went on a trip one weekend to visit her family in Tennessee.  Emily may debate on whether the wait was worth it or not, but either way I had fun making it.

I used the same materials I used for the crib, poplar with birch bead board.  This is it before it is painted.
IMAG0088
I made the curve at the top to match the crib exactly, and added wooden rope accents on the sides.  The crib curve is below (it’s a picture of when I made it)

I did a simple mitered trim at the base.
And here it is all finished:

So with the new baby coming any day now, this will probably be my last wood project for some time.  At any rate I've got to think of something cool to build before I can start on a new project.

Not a Fan of the Suspense

I’m getting really excited for our baby girl to be born. I just wish I knew when it was going to happen! There’s stuff I want to do before the baby is born. Like get my hair cut, get a pedicure, have a clean house… I can clean the house now but it won’t stay clean for 2 weeks straight. So, should I put all the effort into it now just in case or wait until closer to my due date? My Dr. said it could be any day because of how I’m progressing but that may mean she’s jinxed me and I’ll actually be late! My hair grows super fast so I want to wait until next week to get it cut, but will be very sad if she comes before my appointment because who knows when I’ll get a chance to cut it after she’s born. I’m a little jealous of the people who have a scheduled induction, how nice would that be! I would especially like to make sure my husband isn’t on a 10 mile hike on some mountain when I go into labor….

All this worry and watch she’ll end up being so late that they’ll have to induce me :)
